Mark & Clare Miscellany 2014
New Personal Bests
Housemates (0). In September we moved to live full-time at one address, housemate-free. We miss them, but like our own organisable space.
Publications (1). An important first for her career, Clare is top when googling "Clare Perryman Royal Society".
Schools (3rd). Mark wanted a challenge... he got one.
Different beds in 12 nights (6). Our first Christmas betwixt two families was a UK run-around, but an enjoyable one!
Years in waiting (7). After helping with the church's after-school 'Roots2Shoots' group since starting university, Mark has taken charge after the leader emigrated. Clare finds his lack of preparation exhausting.
Pieces of arm bone (too many). Mark's first significant skiing accident; metal plate yet to be tested on airport security.
National Trust properties in year membership (26). Wedding gift well used.
Miles by sailing yacht (80). On board 5 days and nights, we learned to sail. Our stomachs did not.
Ski slopes (all). Clare succeeding in her mission to complete all the red and blue slopes in Les Arcs resort. Accompanied at times by fearless beginner little sister, and walking wounded husband.
Miles by bike (110). Summer adventures included a day trip over Dartmoor and a camping and cycling trip along the North Cornish Coast.
Miles by car (15 000). Our fortnightly commute between Mark's part-time teaching in Stratford-upon-Avon and Clare's PhD in Exeter put the miles on the clock.
Miles by plane (22 000). Singing Handel on a Sydney beach at Easter sunrise and snorkelling were highlights of Clare's conference trip to Australia. Mark stayed at home.
