Mark & Clare Miscellany 2012

Highlight, a double act

M: The highlight of my year has to be watching Switzerland play South Korea in the Olympic football.

C: What!

M: Well, I guess maybe being a short-notice Games Maker with the volleyball was quite good.

C: That sounds fun, but was there nothing better?

M: Skiing was good, the 7km long Aiguille Rouge in February and a long day's skiing between foggy resorts in January were very satisfying.

C: But people, what about people!

M: Errr, it was great to see family at two weddings and a golden anniversary party.

C: Anything personally life-changing though?

M: I passed my NQT year, so am a fully qualified teacher... and passed my driving test at the second attempt!

C: Are you sure you haven't missed anything?!

M: Oh. You mean buying a house with a friend, a 3-bed semi in Coventry.

C: That really was not what I was thinking.

M: The two August weeks traveling in Germany (mainly Bavaria) were nice, there are many beautiful views and sights...

C: And the journey home?!

M: Journey?

C: Eurostar!

M: Eurostar? ... Eurostar ... Oh, you mean when I asked if you would like to be married to me... and you said yes?

C: YES!

The highlight of my year was certainly becoming engaged to Clare Hobbs, a university friend since 2007, housemate 2009-2011, co-traveler on two summer and two skiing holidays, Maths PhD student in Exeter, and my future wife. Merry Christmas.
